Who Wrote the Book of Love?
“Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. (1 John 4:7) In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins." (1 John 4:10)
What does this all mean? From what I got from it, it might go as follows. First of all, God loves every single one of us. It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white, Christian or Atheist or pious or irreverent. You are human therefore He loves you now, He always will love you, and He always has loved you. Second of all, God literally is love. Love is with every good relationship so that means so is God. If two people loved each other no matter what religious background they have, for example, God is there as well. Thirdly, Jesus when he was in human form was love in human form. Fourthly, He didn’t do the things he did because we loved him back but out of the sheer amount of love he has for us. He became human in full knowledge of the suffering he would befall just so we can be able to enter heaven. Finally we MUST love one another no matter who they are or what they do or whatever might make us not want to because if we can’t love others, then we fail to do good.
One might wonder, “If I am faithful and knowledgeable and did many things then that should be good enough, why care for others?” The problem with that line of thinking is we learn in Corinthians that nothing is more important than love. “But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13). Finally do you have to love God? According to Matthew 22: 37-40, we are meant to love God above all else but, still love one another.
